Is HTML5 A Dream?

According to MIT's Eli Schleifer:  "I don’t think HTML5 and JavaScript are ever going to catch up to native alternatives."

Do you agree?

Re: Is HTML5 A Dream?

Right now, I agree HTML5 may never catch up to native apps. While promising, it's not ready. However, I would like to eat my words in a few years since I think HTML5 is pretty neat. We shall see...

Re: Is HTML5 A Dream?

Doesn't matter!

The idea that HTML5 would somehow obviate the need for native programming was always a red herring.

Mostly concocted by Web developers I might add. I am one myself — most of the time.

HTML5 is an important leap forward and does open the door for some pretty astonishing applications.

Applications that until now could only have implemented natively. These applications may not be as speedy as the native

alternative would have been, but most of time speed may not even be relevant.

Re: Is HTML5 A Dream?

HTML5 may not have the speed of native alternatives, but it is platform independent and won't require plug-ins.
