When is it useful to have the development environment virtualized?

Web development is getting complex and more complex, now we have clouds, distributed apps, integrated apps, etc.

Several times our development environment is to far away from the tech specs from our production environment but we want to be a little bit closer.

Virtualizing our environment is the way to be closer to complex production architectures.

Vagrant is the Ruby gem that allow us to virtualize our enviroment, take a look http://vagrantup.com/
